Our dormitory cooling system was not working right.
My buddy and I had only been back to school for two weeks when we noticed it was super chilly in the dorm. I went to the control equipment and changed the temperature, however the cooling system would not turn off. My buddy and I told the janitor about the cooling system, and he took a look at the cooling system and tried to service it, then he said that it was once again working like usual. I was happy to finally come household to a comfortable temperature, however when I entered the dorm, it was frosty. I checked the control equipment and it said that the cooling system was off, however clearly it was on and running. I decided to go to the dean of students and file a complaint about the cooling system in our dorm. The dean busy for an Heating, Ventilation, and A/C worker to come and service the cooling system for us, then unluckyly, the janitor somehow heard that an Heating, Ventilation, and A/C worker was supposed to come and he decided he could do a better job than the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C worker. The janitor went outside to the central cooling system equipment and took it apart. He cleaned the air ducts and messed with some of the parts, but he only made the cooling system worse. The next afternoon when the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C worker came, he said that our cooling system was one of the worst cooling units he had ever diagnosed. The air ducts were messed up, and the wiring was done incorrectly. My buddy and I found out later that the janitor had absolutely messed up the cooling system and our control equipment in an attempt to service it. When I was young, I typically had dreams of entering odd work fields, however as I grew up, I realized that I absolutely enjoyed working on Heating, Ventilation, and A/C units.
I first realized this when I was at household and our furnace stopped working. Our whole household was cold, and my Mom was at work and couldn’t come fit the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C equipment for us. I decided to go down in the basement and try to service the furnace myself. I looked at the furnace and started to tamper with a few weird parts, hoping to find the problem. I finally found out what was wrong with the furnace and was able to service it on my own. My Mom was so proud that I was able to service the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C equipment on my own… From that afternoon on I decided I wanted to work on cooling systems and boilers for a living. I went to school and received my Heating, Ventilation, and A/C degree, then we got hired at a big Heating, Ventilation, and A/C company where I typically have either an cooling system, heater, boiler, or control equipment to work on. It is good being an Heating, Ventilation, and A/C worker, however all the thanks goes to my Mom. My Mom is the one who first taught me about Heating, Ventilation, and A/C and helped me decide that being an Heating, Ventilation, and A/C worker was what I wanted to do with my life. I have had the privilege of working on more than 2 weird cooling systems and boilers with my Mom, and I will confess that I have learned more from him in a few months than I did in all my years in school learning about Heating, Ventilation, and A/C.

The furnace in our dorm was not toiling respectfully. My buddy and I were all gleeful about the fall semester, but my enjoyable friend and I had a giant complication with the furnace. I remember walking into my room on a warm afternoon, gleeful to feel the refreshing air of the air conditioner, but instead I was met by some extreme heat. I set my stuff down & checked the control unit. The control component read an harshly high temperature, but the control component also said that the furnace was off. I went to the HVAC ducts & felt warm air coming out, which confirmed that the furnace was indeed on, & it was not toiling respectfully. I went to the front desk of the dorm & told them the problem. They had the janitor manually shut off our furnace for us. I was so relieved that the furnace was off & my room was at a comfortable temperature again. I felt the cool air of the air conditioner hitting my face & laid back in my bed perfectly triumphant. Unfortunately, the appealing air conditioner only lasted a couple of hours before the furnace kicked on on its own & started to heat up our room again. I rolled my eyep & sighed. I called the front desk & told them my room furnace turned on on its own again. They called an Heating, Ventilation, & A/C worker to come service my furnace for me so I would not have to deal with the heat anymore. The Heating, Ventilation, & A/C worker was not able to come till the next afternoon, so I had to sleep that evening in a friend’s room because the furnace heated my room so much. The Heating, Ventilation, & A/C worker came the next afternoon & fixed the furnace for me. From that afternoon on I became incredibly thankful for the air conditioner.

I experienced the worst taxi ride of my life last week.
- Honestly, it was an incredibly awkward ride with some instances that gave me cause for worry.
I was picked up at the airport and was meant to be taken downtown to the hotel I had a room booked at. It should have been a pretty simple, straightforward experience. Unfortunately the driver’s English was very broken. I was able to communicate the address to him just fine, but once we got on our way he turned the radio on extremely loud to a channel I could not understand due to the language. I was willing to bear with that but what I couldn’t stand was how high he was running the air conditioning in the car. Vents in the back of the car were blowing cold air from the air conditioner straight on me and it was unbearably cold. The vents in the back didn’t have the same covers as the ones in the front, so I couldn’t close them on my end, so I tried asking the driver if the air conditioner could be turned down. He either couldn’t hear me over the radio or didn’t understand, or maybe he simply didn’t care, but whatever the case I was ignored and the arctic blast from the air conditioning never wavered. What made things even worse is that he answered his phone in the middle of the trip! I was really uncomfortable and didn’t feel safe with that at all. I was happy when we finally arrived at the hotel. When I went to pay him I gave exact change from what the toll said I owed, and he gave me a rather rotten look for the lack of a tip, but he didn’t deserve one after that.

I had a doctor’s appointment last week that ended up having to be rescheduled.
It wasn’t because I was too busy that day, though. In fact, I arrived at the building half an hour before my appointment. My doctor’s office was located on the 7th floor so I got into the elevator to head up to sign myself in early. Everything was going great until the elevator broke down between floors 3 and 4. I was the only one in the elevator and I panicked when it suddenly jerked to a stop, pressing all of the buttons to try to get something to work. Nothing worked except for the emergency phone installed next to the button display, through which I was alerted that help was on the way. I eventually calmed down but wasn’t able to stop the sweat that was beginning to drip down my body. The air conditioner in the elevator had stopped, and without the air conditioning the elevator quickly began to heat up. The lack of AC turned the enclosed space into a sweltering sauna. I was going to miss my appointment but that wasn’t a big concern at the time. The temperature outside that day was in the high 80s, and the building’s lobby had been cooled down nicely from the building’s HVAC system, but in the elevator without access to this cooling I couldn’t help but obsess over how hot it was, making me all the more aware of the lack of AC and heat. I was so relieved to finally get out of there that I wasn’t even upset about having to reschedule my appointment.

Sitting in a social security office, waiting for your number to be called so you can go and sit at one of the tiny windows to fulfill whatever task you needed to get done, if you brought all the necessary paperwork, is a pain.
It is painfully dull and extremely frustrating, but necessary in some instances.
I had to deal with one such instance recently. The office in my area opens at 9 am, and I arrived exactly at 9, and the entire waiting area was already filled. I had assumed 9 was when they first began letting people in but apparently the doors opened early to allow people to sign in and get their number. Because of this I was number 132, and 101 was just being called when I arrived. No seats were available so I was left standing, and the waiting was made even worse by the air conditioning in the building. For whatever reason they had their air conditioner at full blast in the middle of winter even though it was 32 degrees outside. It was a poor use of their HVAC system; we needed the furnace to be running, not the air conditioning! I was stuck in the frigid waiting area for a little over an hour, and my visit only took 5 minutes once I was called. 5 minutes was all it took to get the paperwork I needed, get it filled out, and leave, but it took over an hour to start! I was so glad to get out of that building, with its ridiculous wait and insane air conditioning, and into my car to head on home.

My boyfriend and I had been looking for an activity to do together for a while and finally decided on something last month. Each weekend we go out to a different restaurant in our area for the purpose of giving it our own review. There’s a lot of small, locally owned places and it’s been really fun to check out restaurants we may have never thought to enter before. I’m a pretty picky eater, unlike my boyfriend, so the food review is his job. I also comment on how well I like whatever dish I selected but my main goal is checking out the restaurant’s atmosphere and service. How quickly we get seated, how attentive the waiter is, and how long it takes for the food to be prepared falls into the service aspect. For the atmosphere I rate the seating arrangements, decor, and HVAC system. The heating and cooling within a restaurant is really important to me, although it isn’t really something people think about unless something is wrong. The placement of the vents can lead to some sections being too cold and others not cold enough when the air conditioner is running, and the opposite when the furnace is on. If you feel like you need a winter jacket at the table then something is clearly wrong, and the same goes for if you’re sweating from the heat. It’s the restaurant’s responsibility to maintain proper temperature control within the building for the comfort of their customers. In any case, the reviewing has been a lot of fun! We’ve had a great time going out and I can’t wait until the weekend to decide where to go next.

I remember when my buddy and I were hit by a hurricane about seven years ago. Our electricity was out for ten mornings. Of course, those living in the wealthier areas of neighborhood had their electricity back on almost right away, but, my buddy and I terrible folks had to wait. It was horrible. The temperatures stayed around the low to middle nineties, which my buddy and I were used to, but, the humidity was unbearable. And, it felt like that hurricane took all the breeze with it, and because my buddy and I were in the neglected side of town, our drainage system wasn’t as fine as it was in the wealthier areas, and, after a few mornings, the mosquitoes were unbearable! It’s not like my buddy and I could stand in our homes with the doors closed. It was way too hot. And, most of us in that area didn’t have the luxury of screened doors or screened in porches. I legitimately went to my sister’s dwelling plus borrowed my infant nephew so that my buddy would feel terrible enough to hook us up to his generator plus my buddy and I could run our fans, at least. I couldn’t wait for our power to come back on so that my buddy and I could run our cooling system. It was so humid plus the bugs were so awful, I still cringe thinking about it. It took ten long mornings before our power was restored. My associate and I had to wait for unit to be brought down from up North. Boy, were my buddy and I grateful to have our air conditioner back!

As a student, I have been made better aware of how my buddy and I humans are destroying the Earth, especially the effect our energy usage has had on the environment.
I don’t have a lot of money to spare, but, our government understands that not everybody has extra money to spare to help our environment, which legitimately explains why tax deductions are offered to people who choose energy efficient appliances.
Homes are rather cheap in my small rural town, and, when I purchase one, I hope to have the extra money to purchase environmentally friendly appliances, like the geothermal HVAC system. The temperature within the Earth stays fairly consistent, plus the geothermal system uses the heat beneath the Earth’s surface to heat the dwelling in winter, plus returns the heat to the Earth in the Summer when the system cools the home, and a geothermal system is more costly to purchase, however will save money in the long run. It uses less energy than traditional HVAC systems, lasts years longer, plus requires minimal maintenance. It also leaves a much smaller carbon footprint than other traditional methods of heating plus cooling a house. Since several of the houses in my small rural neighborhood don’t offer air conditioner outside of window units, purchasing a dwelling here will provide me the opportunity to do my part in helping the environment by purchasing a geothermal air conditioner plus heater.

We are under a tropical storm warning. I’ve lived through numerous tropical storms and hurricanes and you would guess it would be no giant deal. The problem is, the tropical storms and hurricanes that I have lived through in the past were in a wealthy neighborhood better prepared for that kind of weather. The neighborhood I live in now doesn’t get dire weather, and is not prepared for flooding and power outages. I’m really not as distraught about flooding as I am about power outages. I can cook really enough on the grill for a few afternoons, but, I do not like going without air conditioner. Although the hot and cold temperatures will only be in the middle to high eighties, the humidity will be terrible. And in about two afternoons, the mosquitos will be terrible, too. Experience tells me this. In the past, after a tropical storm or hurricane, we’ve gone afternoons without electricity, but, numerous stores and diners with electricity were open, and my associate and I would spend time in them, enjoying the cool air conditioner and freezing drinks. I never appreciated air conditioner and freezing drinks as much as I did after a few afternoons without electricity in the middle of summer time in the south. The meteorologists are predicting extensive power outages in this area. I really hope it doesn’t take long to restore it. To me, humidity is worse than high hot and cold temperatures. Although it’s only in the eighties here right now, the humidity is already close to ninety-five percent, so, I am enjoying my air conditioner while I have it.
