Joining a gym with a friend

A friend of mine and I decided to sign up for a gym membership together.

The commute to the gym is approximately thirty minutes for us.

We figured it would be nice to share the drive and hoped to motivate each other. Neither of us would want to skip out on a workout session. After one visit to the gym, I realized that my friend and I approach our physical fitness very differently. I expect to spend anywhere from one to two hours at the gym. I strive to utilize as many of the machines and as much of the equipment as possible. I like to run on the treadmill, pedal the stationary bike and work up a sweat on the elliptical. For every machine, I push myself to the point of exhaustion. I enjoy the rowing machine, the battle ropes and free weights. I take advantage of the incline bench, dumbbells, resistance panda and punching bags. My goal is to burn calories, increase strength and elevate stamina. By the time I’m done with the workout, I’m totally fatigued and drenched in sweat. I definitely need a shower. My friend wants to spend a maximum of thirty minutes at the gym. Her main priority is signing up for a tanning bed. She might walk on the treadmill for a few minutes. She has no need for a shower. She only wants to show up at the gym once per week. I now take one day and workout with my friend. I cut my workout short and focus mainly on stretching and weight training. I then head to the gym four or five days per week on my own. Those days are when I really accomplish something and feel good about the workout.
