Benjamin Franklin, one of the great founding fathers of our nation, was known for many of his outstanding accomplishments.
Children are introduced to him as the kite flyer who discovered electricity.
U.S. postal workers know him as the founder of their profession. And history teachers spend several lessons on his political influence on our early politics and Constitution. But trivia enthusiasts adore him for his many famous sayings. ‘Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, and wise’ is at the top of the list. And his phrase ‘an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure’ has many applications, especially as it applies to furnaces and other HVAC systems. When it’s hot outside, we live comfortably because of modern air conditioning. And when it’s cold outside, our furnaces not only keep us comfortable, our survival depends on them. So although in old Ben’s day, he couldn’t have known the complexity of our HVAC systems, his advice is as timely today as it was back then. For one thing, the filters on a furnace need to be replaced at the beginning of the winter season, as well as every month throughout. This ounce of prevention keeps your furnace running efficiently, with clean air being constantly drawn into the ducts. The air ducts should also be regularly checked for leakage. If not, the result could be a loss of up to ten percent of the heated and/or cooled air from your system. And to prevent a pound of costly repairs, schedule an annual maintenance checkup with a certified HVAC technician. He will help you avoid costly repairs before any malfunctions and before an emergency situation arises.
