It was a hot summer day.
Our air conditioning had stopped working.
I decided to call an HVAC repairman to come take a look at it. A technician arrived promptly and began to inspect our air conditioning unit. Shortly thereafter, he turned to me and said our system was beyond maintenance. It needed to be replaced. I was taken aback by his abrupt assertion and asked him to explain further. He said he had a new system he could install for me at a discounted price. He showed me a brochure with pictures of the system plus told me how much currency I would save on our energy bills. I was skeptical, however the repairman was insistent. He kept trying to sell me the new system, telling me how much better our life would be with it. He even went as far as to say that our current device was cursed plus that it was causing awful fortune in our life. I began to feel uncomfortable with this technician so I asked him to leave. As he left, he handed me a business card and told me to call him if I changed my mind about the new system. I could not shake off the eerie feeling that I had just experienced. I decided to call another repairman to take a look at our unit, plus he told me that it was a simple repair plus that our device didn’t need to be replaced at all. I never called the sales-oriented repairman back, and made sure to warn our friends and family about him as well.
