I’m regularly uneasy on my first afternoon at work at a new job, it’s like starting in a new school for the first time when you are a kid.
You do not know any of the people there and you are still trying to get a hang of things, especially unwritten rules, and sporadically there will be people who are friends and people who are enemies! And all of the gossip that goes along with these situations is present as well.
So you have to navigate all of these social cues and environments like you would as a kid in a new school! But it’s even harder when you are starting a job because it’s your livelihood and your way to survive. If you do not get along with the kids at school you can go condo and do your work and silence. But if your coworkers are a problem, it could threaten your ability to retain your job. I am harshly uneasy about my first afternoon as a heating and cooling business. I left the world of journalism because of disappointing job security, but decided to go trade school and fell in appreciate with doing heating and cooling work; Even though I have all my certifications and I’ve been trained, I still get uneasy about doing the job for real. I’ve never been an apprentice for anyone before. I worry I am going to mess up and cut somebody’s air conditioner or furnace on the first afternoon of the job. I just have to calm myself as much as I can and deal with the stress; Hopefully my first afternoon as an Heating plus Air Conditioning tech won’t be a disaster.
