Bill, bills, bills and more bills while trying to figure out how my cooling works

When living with my parents, I didn’t have any financial responsibility related to the cost of living at home.

  • My mom, being the caring, loving mom she is, convinced my dad that I needed to save money to get my one place eventually.

Once out of college, I had a grace period of 3 years to get a job and 2 more years to save and organize myself. Luckily, things fell into place, and I recently moved out. My parents helped meet the actual cost of moving and setting me up. I basically moved house like I was moving into a furnished apartment. Three months down the line, now I really realize the true cost of being an independent adult. What stands out for me is the climate control of my house. I can’t wrap my head around how cooling works or if I have the right cooling equipment in my house. Whenever I budget for my bills, my energy bills keep rising. So I figured I needed help with indoor comfort and talked to my dad about it. His first suspect was the electric heat pump. Personally, I had no idea what he was talking about, but he hooked me up with his cooling technician, who took me through all the jargon associated with HVAC installation. Apparently, quality AC service is not cheap, but it can get worse with the wrong or old cooling technology, like in my case. Since the cooling specialist took me through how it all works and helped me determine the recommended seer ratios for my area, I took time to learn about the HVAC business, then engaged my landlord with the facts. To be sure of himself, he ignored his local service provider and booked an HVAC contractor from a recognized cooling corporation to look into my claims. It turns out I was right.
