I know it’s still February but man, I’m already getting excited about spring.
And who can blame me, right? By this point in the winter, I’m over the snow and ice. The teens and single digit temperatures are wearing me down. And all I really want is for the gas furnace to stop running day and night. I sure don’t miss the high cost of heating this house when the winter ends. But we still have another month or two of having the gas furnace come on. However, the frequency with which the gas furnace cycles on will start to diminish. That’s always an exciting sign that spring is around the corner. Actually, we live in a region that has such a harsh winter I actually have to protect the air conditioner. We have a central air conditioning system inside our home the produces the heating and cooling we need. So half of that system is the air conditioning and the other half is the heating. Of course, in our neck of the woods, you have to have a gas furnace or some sort of boiler to get through this type of winter. I supplement the heating in our house with a wood stove and still my gas furnace costs me plenty. The other half of the central air conditioning is essentially a heat pump. Our winter is so tough that I actually cover the HVAC cabinet outside the house. It won’t be long now before I uncover that part of the air conditioning and call the HVAC company. I always like to start out spring with an air conditioning tune up to go along with our spring cleaning.
