When my hubby first recommended a house security system, I was not overly blissful with the idea.
I figured the installation, weekly fees, arming, disarming and dealing with false alarms would all be frustrating.
I wasn’t sure the benefits were worth the hassle. I decided to do some research into why a house security system is a superb idea. I wasn’t all that surprised to learn that the main reason people invest into security for their house is to protect. I was reminded of an acquaintance of mine who lost electronics, jewelry, tools and money to a house invasion. The theft was especially devastating because the thieves made off with several irreplaceable family heirlooms. Studies have shown that as the number of house security systems increase in a city, the number of residential robberies decrease. A visible security system works to deter crime. There is also the benefit of remote monitoring. The addition of surveillance cameras located throughout the inside of the house and around the exterior provide real-time footage. The video feed is vivid, full color and allows for recording, playback and remote monitoring. Through an app on the smartphone, homeowners can check up on their dwelling from virtually anywhere. There are further advantages to smart keyless locks and smart lighting. Since my family often takes lengthy getaways, I like the idea of being able to keep an eye on our empty house. The ability to turn lights on and off or unlock the door for someone to water plants was also an asset. The security system we chose includes smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors and moisture sensors. These features are as important to me as the door and window sensors and alarms.
